Meet the Heritage Administration
Mary Polite: Head of School Dr. Polite graduated from Augustana College with a B.A. in Elementary Education and Psychology and from Illinois State University with a master's and Ph.D. in Educational Administration. She has been in education over 30 years as a teacher and principal and in higher education as a full professor and School of Education Associate Dean and Dean.
Gloria Shoemaker: Head of School Ms. Shoemaker segued from twenty-eight years in international education to directing the instructional program at Heritage Academy five years ago. Her extensive teaching and professional leadership background and her understanding of North American and international comparative education models help all Heritage students receive an education tailored to their needs. She earned her M.S. degree from Indiana University in English and secondary education and holds certification in gifted/talented and ESL education.
Melissa Mireles: Director of Student Services Mrs. Mireles graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.A. in Psychology and from Sam Houston State University with a M.A. in Counseling. Melissa completed a graduate internship in Washington DC with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and later worked on a federal youth violence prevention grant called Safe Schools Healthy Students. She assisted grantees in schools across the nation to implement evidenced based programs in the areas of education, juvenile justice and mental health services. Melissa has been the Director of Student Services at Heritage Academy since February 2006.
Tina Sprouse: Director of Admissions Ms. Sprouse is originally from Columbia, SC. She graduated from Mars Hill College located near Asheville, NC with B.S. in Business Administration. Tina has a love for Heritage Academy, the students, and strongly supports the mission of the school. After volunteering for a year in the admissions department, she worked as the Administrative Assistant until September, 2007 when she became the Director of Admissions.
Kristin Fields: Administrative Assistant to the Head of School Mrs. Fields was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania and later moved with her family to Pinehurst, North Carolina. She graduated college from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Before moving to Hilton Head Island she worked at Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina as the Campus Life Assistant. She has been with Heritage Academy as an administrative assistant since September 2006.
Dean Costakis: Guidance Counselor/Algebra Teacher Mr. Costakis is a graduate of Purdue University, holding a BA in elementary education and a teacher certification in the states of Indiana and South Carolina. Mr. Costakis moved to Hilton Head Island in May of 2004 from the Chicago area. This will be his fourth year teaching in South Carolina. He currently serves as the guidance counselor and algebra teacher for Heritage Academy. Mr. Costakis' passions include teaching, playing tennis, drums, and guitar. |
